Video Downloader Plus lets you download TikTok videos by detecting the video streams that load in your browser when you watch a TikTok on the desktop site. No third-party tools, no paste-a-link services — just direct stream detection from the network traffic your browser already handles.

How Video Downloader Plus detects TikTok videos

TikTok serves video content as MP4 files. When you watch a TikTok on tiktok.com, your browser requests those MP4 files from TikTok’s CDN. Video Downloader Plus monitors your browser’s network traffic and captures these requests as they happen. This is the same universal detection mechanism Video Downloader Plus uses on every other site. No TikTok-specific code, no API calls — just watching what your browser loads.

How to download a TikTok video

1

Open TikTok on desktop

Go to tiktok.com in Chrome. Video Downloader Plus is a desktop browser extension and does not work in the TikTok mobile app or on mobile browsers.
2

Navigate to the video

Click on the video you want to download to open it. This takes you to the individual video page.
3

Play the video

The video will typically start playing automatically on the TikTok video page. If it does not, press play to trigger the stream load.
4

Click the Video Downloader Plus icon

Once the video stream is detected, the Video Downloader Plus icon in your toolbar lights up. Click it to open the download panel.
5

Select quality and download

Choose your preferred quality from the available options and click Download.

Available quality options

QualityAvailability
720pTypically available
1080pAvailable for most videos
TikTok’s available qualities depend on the original upload and how TikTok encodes each video. Video Downloader Plus shows all streams it detects — there may be more than one quality option.

Tips for downloading TikTok videos

  • Use tiktok.com on desktop — The desktop website is required. Video Downloader Plus does not run inside the TikTok app or on mobile browsers.
  • Click into the video — Videos that auto-play in the TikTok For You feed while scrolling may also be detected, but opening the individual video page is the most reliable approach.
  • Scroll to load — If you are browsing a creator’s profile, scroll through their videos to trigger lazy loading. Video Downloader Plus captures streams as they load.
  • Try refreshing if not detected — If the icon does not light up, refresh the page and allow the video to start playing again.
  • Quality varies — TikTok serves different quality levels depending on the video. Some videos may only have one detected stream.
For the most reliable detection, open the individual video page (the URL that contains the video ID), let it autoplay for a couple of seconds, then click the Video Downloader Plus icon.

Frequently asked questions

Video Downloader Plus downloads the video stream as TikTok delivers it to your browser. Whether a watermark appears depends on what TikTok encodes into the video stream itself. Video Downloader Plus does not add or remove watermarks — it saves exactly what TikTok sends.
No. Video Downloader Plus is a Chrome desktop browser extension. It works on tiktok.com in your desktop browser and does not integrate with the TikTok iOS or Android app.
The most common reasons: the video has not started playing yet, you are on a mobile browser where the extension does not run, or the video page has not fully loaded. Try refreshing the page, waiting for the video to auto-play, and then clicking the icon.
TikTok Live streams are delivered as HLS streams. Video Downloader Plus can detect live HLS streams, but live recording availability depends on your Video Downloader Plus plan. Once detected, the stream will appear in the extension popup like any other stream.
