Video Downloader Plus works as a Pinterest video downloader by detecting the HLS streams and MP4 files that Pinterest loads when you view a video pin. It runs directly in your browser and requires no external services — just open a Pinterest video, let it play, and Video Downloader Plus handles the rest.Documentation Index

How Video Downloader Plus detects Pinterest videos
Pinterest delivers video content using HLS adaptive streaming with an MP4 fallback. When you open a video pin and it starts playing, your browser fetches an HLS manifest or an MP4 file from Pinterest’s CDN. Video Downloader Plus monitors your browser’s network traffic and intercepts these stream requests as they load. This is Video Downloader Plus’s standard universal detection — the same mechanism that works across all streaming platforms. No Pinterest-specific integration is needed. How to download a Pinterest video
Open Pinterest on desktop
Go to pinterest.com in Chrome. Video Downloader Plus is a desktop browser extension and requires the full desktop site.
Click into the pin
Find the video pin you want to download and click on it to open the full pin view. Video pins displayed in the feed may not fully load the stream until you open them.
Play the video
The video should start playing automatically when you open the pin. If it does not, click the play button to trigger the stream load.
Click the Video Downloader Plus icon
Once Video Downloader Plus detects the stream, the icon in your browser toolbar lights up. Click it to see the available download options.
Available quality options
| Quality | Availability |

Pinterest re-encodes uploaded videos and typically serves them at 720p. The exact resolution depends on the original upload quality and Pinterest’s encoding pipeline.
Tips for downloading Pinterest videos
- Click into the pin — Videos shown as thumbnails in the Pinterest feed do not fully load the stream. Click into the individual pin to open it fully before trying to download.
- Use pinterest.com on desktop — Video Downloader Plus requires the desktop site. The Pinterest mobile website and app load content differently.
- Let it autoplay — Pinterest autoplays video pins when you open them. Give it a moment to start before clicking the Video Downloader Plus icon.
- Idea Pins — Pinterest Idea Pins (formerly Story Pins) that contain video are also delivered as video streams and should be detectable through the same process.
Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Video Pins?
Yes. Standard Pinterest Video Pins are served via HLS streaming or MP4, and Video Downloader Plus detects both. Open the pin, let the video play, and click the icon.
Can I download Pinterest Idea Pins?
Can I download Pinterest Idea Pins?
Pinterest Idea Pins that include video content are delivered as video streams that Video Downloader Plus can detect. Open the Idea Pin and allow it to play. Note that some Idea Pins may contain multiple slides with video — Video Downloader Plus will detect the streams as they load for each slide.
Why do I need to click into the pin?
Why do I need to click into the pin?
Pinterest uses lazy loading for video content in the feed. The video stream is only requested from Pinterest’s servers when you open the full pin view. Video Downloader Plus can only detect streams that your browser has already loaded, so clicking into the pin is required to trigger that network request.
Why does only one quality show up?
Why does only one quality show up?
Pinterest typically encodes video pins at a single quality level (720p). Unlike platforms that serve multiple quality tiers, Pinterest generally does not offer multiple resolution options for the same video. What Video Downloader Plus shows is what Pinterest provides.
